COMING UP THIS WEEK:

Ken Russell’s “Crimes Of Passion”
One of my favorite things about having an Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco (besides the fried pickles!) is their Terror Tuesdays and Weird Wednesdays movie programming. It’s a cheap way to see underrated and bizarre films on the big screen with a fun and appreciative crowd. This week’s Weird Wednesday selection is Ken Russell’s brilliant erotic thriller “Crimes Of Passion” starring Kathleen Turner and Anthony Perkins. It’s lurid and extreme and a great way to spend a Wednesday evening.
FEB 6 – WEDNESDAY, 10pm at Alamo Drafthouse, tickets $6

Friends Live!
While I specialize in doing cult movie drag parodies over at the Castro Theatre, it’s D’arcy and Heklina at Oasis who have specialized in the drag TV show parody. If you’ve seen their annual Golden Girls offering you know how hysterical these shows can be. Any fan of the TV show “Friends” does not want to miss this upcoming offering which stars Sue Casa and is directed by Nancy French.
FEB 7 – THURSDAY through FEB 9 – SATURDAY at Oasis, Tickets range $27.50-$50

Kat Robichaud’s Misfit Cabaret Presents Lost In Z Space
Misfit Cabaret is another “only-in-SF” offering that I recommend to folks all the time, every time another one comes around. Kat Robichaud is not only a talented singer songwriter (who you may remember from The Voice) but she’s also a fantastic hostess and producer who brings together a truly unique variety show full of comedy, music, dance, and more. This new show has a sci-fi theme and I just know there will be a great face-hugger moment.
FEB 7 – THURSDAY through FEB 9 – SATURDAY at Z Space, Tickets range $20 – $55

Bohemian Rhapsody Sing-Along
I’m not the biggest sing-along fan, especially when the movie’s music doesn’t really work with a group sing-along vibe. For years, I presented a popular Purple Rain sing-along and loved the rock concert feel of the experience. Well, if ever there was a movie to come along that could be as much of a rockin’ group experience- it’s Bohemian Rhapsody. Now, picture over 1,000 Queen fans packed into the magical Castro Theatre stomping their feet and singing their lungs out to “We Will Rock You” and it should just sell itself.
FEB 8 – FRIDAY through FEB 10 – SUNDAY at Castro Theatre, Ticket range $11 – $16

Josh’s Brain Improv
I have been a huge fan of Josh Kornbluth since his fantastic film “Haiku Tunnel” came out back in 2001. He is one of the funniest people in the Bay Area comedy community. This new live show (which I don’t believe is actually improv) sounds really great: “Early in 2017, Josh Kornbluth unexpectedly was made a “fellow” at the Global Brain Health Institute at UCSF. His goal was to absorb all the information he could about brain health and brain science and then transmit it via storytelling. At the same time Donald Trump’s presidency was also just starting. As the nation progressed rapidly through a kind of political dementia, Josh raced to come up with a cure.”
FEB 8 – FRIDAY through FEB 9 – SATURDAY at Ashby Stage, Tickets $15
