FAQ

How does thing thing work?
The Anglerfish is run by a volunteer cabal of editors who are also local independent event producers. We’re doing this out of love for the Bay Area’s smart alternative nightlife and adventure options. See more about us here>

Who selects what events are listed?
We rotate among the editors on a weekly basis, so each week’s featured events are selected by a different person. We all have slightly different passions and areas of enthusiasm, so the voice of each week’s list will reflect to a degree whoever happens to be at the helm that week.

What kinds of events are included in the Anglerfish?
We’re looking for smart, fun, independent things to do in the San Francisco Bay Area. We love alternative lecture series and spoken word events, open science and participatory history events, quirky film festivals, dangerous art, gatherings of interesting people, and opportunities to peek behind the scenes at museums, libraries, and private collections of all kinds.

What *don’t* you feature?
We don’t have many hard, fast rules about what can or can not be included, but generally speaking we don’t include dance parties and club nights, music events, mainstream theater, kid-centered events, regular book signings, burlesque or circus performances, or large museum exhibits or theater productions. If you’re not sure about an event, you can always suggest it to us via the event submission form, or reach out to us via email and we’ll do our best to answer.

Can I join the editorial cabal?
If you’re a local independent producer or passionate fan of alternative, smart Bay Area events and you’d like to become part of our rotation as a guest editor or part of the team, we’d love to hear from you. Please note: everyone here is a volunteer – we are busy, potentially disorganized, and work in exchange for good company and the occasional beer. Still interested? Drop us a line>

Where else can you be found?
We’re in the usual social media places, but we mostly just share the weekly dispatch. If you’d like to contact us, hit us up here>
