A public speaking challenge not for the faint of heart: This month’s improv-only Powerpoint presentation challenge brings speakers to the stage to present on science themes with only their wits for preparation. The open mic round from 6:30-7 will determine the final participant.

Fort Point Civil War Days Living History Day
The 20th Maine Company G crew of Civil War re-enactors take over the historic Civil-War era Fort Point at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge for a day of historical interpretation, infantry and artillery demonstrations, music and dance. Park elsewhere, it’s a parking disaster down there.

Night Tour at the historic Mechanics’ Institute
If you have not yet explored San Francisco’s charming, purpose built library and chess rooms hidden away downtown, you should immediately remedy that situation with a night tour introduction to the space and the history of the west coast’s oldest library, going all the way back to 1854.
